Happy Wednesday, Shit Givers.

Everything feels fucked, but/so we’re working harder than ever to identify and share the most measurable ways you can actually do something about it all.

Our first real product updates went live today (more below!), and we’ve also got a curated list of what’s new and what’s trending on What Can I Do?

Let’s go.

We’re excited to announce version 1.2!

(massive exhale)

1.2 is our first substantial product update, and it sets the stage for tons of big stuff coming down the pipe.

Huge huge thanks to Conor, Willow, Tajen, Jaime, Jason, Chalena, and the team at Tubik for all the fantastic work.

In this release:

  • A completely updated UX: Faster and more intuitive

  • All-new profile layout! Dig in, Members!

  • Enhanced search! Faster and more customizable up front, with (optional) co-benefits and skills!

  • Starter Actions! What’s new, what’s hot, and what’s featured — plus our very first dynamic and intelligent recommendations for Members!

  • New Nav: More and quicker access to everything else we make, from newsletters to podcasts and our dope merch shop

  • Better FAQ: Our FAQ and How We Evaluate Actions are rebuilt from the ground up and now come with a table of contents! So fun

  • Become Important: The first layer of Membership upgrade opportunities is woven throughout the app (and everything else we do, too), with more to come.

The app will always be free to search, anywhere in the world, any time of day.

But we’re making it much more clear when and how you can upgrade to save your favorites and actions you’ve taken, follow other IRL Members, with much more to come.

Members — if you haven’t yet, dive in to your profile and add your favorite verbs, nouns, co-benefits, skills, location and more to start getting intelligent action and follower recommendations!

Of course, huge thanks to my wife for her endless support, and to all of you Members for keeping this work going.

I met Michael in a Boston subway station. I told him I liked his sign. “What matters is what it means to you,” he told me. I asked what it meant to him. “Doing a deed or expressing kindness to another person without expecting anything in return,” Michael said. I love approaching strangers wherever I go. Listening and talking to them teaches you about people and how similar we all are to one another. Just like Michael, we’re all seeking human kindness.

We will not go quietly.

  • Be Heard: TB patients are suffering around the world after USAID’s destruction. Use our script, co-developed with our friends at TB Fighters, to keep calling your reps and demanding these vital funds are reinstated. (go)

  • Buy: You guys really loved those Purple Air monitors, huh? Who’s gonna be the first to buy a couple for your kids schools? (bonus points if you buy them for schools your kids don’t even go to!) (go)

  • Learn: Our top search last week was “Learn about meaningful careers”, which is excellent news. There’s never been a better time to figure out which skills of yours are most transferrable and then put them to use for the greater good. (go)

  • Donate: Everything comes back to housing. Poverty. Public health. Education. You name it. Love to all the folks using our curated search to donate to the orgs helping making housing more accessible (go)

  • Get Help: It was only a matter of time before “Get help for anxiety” started really climbing the top search ranks. We’ve got a pretty good collection of resources here, but if you’ve got additional recommendations, please let us know. (go)

Whew. What a week. Huge huge thanks to everyone for keeping the dream alive.

Remember — you can save actions for later with an WCID profile! Thank you as always for giving a shit.
