WCID This Weekend: Maternal health, truth & reconciliation, and hurricane relief
Plus: Volunteer for the ocean and protect the US southwest wilderness
Happy weekend, Shit Givers.
Welcome back to your What Can I Do? Action Update!
Last week’s edition didn’t run because hurricane-related power and wifi issues, but we’re back — and with some more Helene recovery actions, too.
Important: The US election’s in 30 goddamn days. Find and make your last impactful donations to candidates endorsed by Planned Parenthood, Run for Something, or LCV right now.
Grab a coffee — let’s put our thumb on the scale, shall we?

Learn: Maternal health is always top of mind here. TeamBirth works with hospitals to dramatically improve maternal health outcomes for patients.
Learn: Help improve our base layer of community health workers with Neighborhood Nursing, especially where structural barriers keep the majority of residents from accessing care.
Donate or Volunteer: Live and love the US southwest? The New Mexico Wilderness Alliance protects the wildlands and wilderness of New Mexico so they can continue to be enjoyed for generations.
Volunteer: Governor Hochul’s still got congestion pricing on “pause”, so we’re still running more ways to demand she fix it. Transportation Alternatives has the goods.
Learn: First Nations people have stewarded lands for…time immemorial, and you can learn from the First Nationals Development Institute and support their grantmaking.
Learn: Use the Lessons of our Land interdisciplinary curriculum to help kids and adults identify and reconcile with the land they live on.
Donate: Operation Airdrop is delivering supplies, hot meals, and more to hard-to-reach communities affected by Hurricane Helene.
Be Heard: Oh yes, we’re still GENTLY harassing our elected reps in the US House to pass the End TB Now Act (H.R. 1776, if you’re fancy). It only takes a minute, let’s go.
Donate to disaster relief stays at the top for the second week in a row. Keep it up, team. We’re adding more verified, frontline, location-specific resources every week.
Volunteer for the oceans jumps into the top five.
Learn about global health with hand-picked free courses.
