  • 🌎 Indonesia is considering withdrawing from the Paris Agreement as well, arguing that it is unfair for developing nations to comply while a major polluter like the US has pulled out (Mongabay)

  • Geothermal still needs to overcome challenges before it is widely adopted but some recent technological developments is bringing us one step closer (Distilled)

  • DOGE has hold of NOAA’s data, the agency responsible for monitoring the oceans and atmosphere to predict changes in climate and weather (and Project 2025 calls for it to be broken up and downsized, btw) (Wired)

  • Lawmakers in California want to expedite crucial wildfire safety regulations that could save money by helping maintain insurance coverage and prevent home losses in wildfires (LA Times)

🦠 Health & Bio:

  • The FDA has approved two biotechnology companies to proceed with clinical trials in which genetically modified pig kidneys will be transplanted into people with kidney failure (The New York Times)

  • Your brain accumulates higher concentrations of microplastics than other organs, and researchers have found that people with dementia have up to 10 times more microplastic in their brains than those without dementia (The LA Times)

What Now for Climate Under Trump? Act Locally

Trump is working to sabotage climate solutions — but there’s a lot regular people can do to push cities and states to fill the growing federal void.

Last week’s most popular Action Step was calling your Senators to oppose RFK Jr’s nomination.

  • 🌎 Donate to GiveWell, and rest assured you are maximizing the impact of your dollar to tackle issues like malaria and global vaccinations.

  • Volunteer as a doula, midwife, or nurse to advocate for mothers and help them navigate their emotional and mental well-being during and after pregnancy, using the Poppy Seed Health app.

  • 🌏 Learn about the Inner Development Goals, a framework for inner human growth, so you can develop your capacity to deal with complex global challenges.

  • Be heard about equal access to education and get your state to fund period products in schools, so no student has to miss out on learning because they can’t access basic necessities.

  • Invest in regenerative agriculture (or get funding for your sustainable farm) using Farm VC.

Why is it so dangerous to have Black babies in America?

It’s Black History Month, and so we are replaying one of our favorite episodes from 2021 with guest Representative Lauren Underwood of Illinois, a nurse and former senior advisor to President Obama.

We discuss how this country is failing Black mothers, and her incredible Momnibus Act, a suite of 12 bills designed to improve Black maternal health outcomes in America, where Black women are dying in or after childbirth at 3x-4x rates of white women.

In this incredible conversation, Rep. Underwood goes deep to help us understand the complexities of the problem, the crushing personal inspiration for her work, and what we can all do to help.

Listen now

What is maternal health?

Maternal health outcomes in the US are concerningly poor compared to other developed nations, especially for Black women.

Read about how the vast majority of maternal deaths are preventable, and how we can improve outcomes via better healthcare and support systems 👇
