WCID Wednesday: New features, mayors, and more housing

Plus: smallholder farms in Africa, data privacy, and curated kids books

Together With

Happy Wednesday, Shit Givers.

🎉 I’ve got announcements!

  1. We’re steadily quashing bugs and building out our roadmap, balancing ambition and need with being extremely strapped for resources lol.

  2. As of today, WCID v1.1 is live, bringing with it many dead bugs (bless), some exciting back-end improvements you can’t actually see, and most notably, the first updates to our WCID network.

  3. NEW! Login to your WCID profile, click the red “Community” button, and you’ll see a count AND list of other (real, verified) Shit Givers you’re following and who are following you!

  4. Remember, kids: Compound Action doesn’t happen in isolation, so make sure to share your profile URL and grow your action potential.

  5. We can’t thank you enough for your feedback so far. Keep it coming.

PS — Haven’t actually made your profile yet? It takes less than a minute, is free for 30 days, and you just need your phone and ID! Get started!

Let’s go.

Together With Bookshop

Want to read what the people working on the frontlines of the future are reading?

Every week, I ask our podcast guest, "What’s a book you’ve read this year that’s opened your mind to a topic you haven’t considered before, or that’s changed your thinking in some way?"

And every week, we add their picks to a list on Bookshop, where every purchase on the site financially supports independent bookstores.

INI readers have raised over $1000 for independent bookstores to-date.

  • Donate to disaster relief (go). Timely, essential, let’s go.

  • Learn about global health (go). No one life is worth more than another.

  • Volunteer for mental health (go). Mutual aid for mental health is table stakes at this point.

  • Be Heard about agriculture (go). Food is good!

  • Learn about electric school buses (go). No more running through diesel fumes for you.

  • Learn about data privacy (go) because, and this will surprise you, you don’t have much

  • Volunteer for gun control (go). You get it.

  • Volunteer: We’re almost at the point where donations won’t move the needle as much as GOTV door-knocking, calls, and texts. Check out volunteer opportunities near you/on your phone with our trusted, democracy-loving partners (go)

  • Buy: Our curated list of books for kids is pretty, pretty rizz, as they say. Sigma. No cap! Check it out here (and support local bookstores while you’re at it)

  • Learn: We’ve got QUITE the shortage of nurses and mid-wives. It’s complicated, but you can train to become a certified nurse-midwife to promote antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum wellness for pregnant people and newborns (go)

That’s it! Forward this baby on to friends and family who are ready to stir up some good trouble.

Remember — you can save actions for later with an WCID profile! Thank you as always for giving a shit.
